When you come to colour schemes in a website, you have to think about the audience and the site. If the site is for children, then it has to be blooming, bright colours, maybe some wiggly lines here and there to make it childish. Children loves bright colours, Red, Yellow, Blue and Green are mostly loved by little ones.

For more serious sites like blogs and maybe a news site, White and black text do the job remarkably well with some touches of light colours like light blue, green or some colour like lime. Something to rest the eyes of the user.

Colour schemes can be warm or cold, depending on the colour ranges used.

Magenta, Red, Orange and Yellow are considered Warm.
Lime, Green, Cyan, Blue and Violet are considered Cold.

Shades of these really help to come up with fantastic results and to help the eyes rest and make it eye candy NEVER USE Colour neighbours with the text and background! For instance, White background with bright yellow text!

The example above is just one little line and already is a headache seeing it, imagine a whole site like that! It makes text unreadable and a sore eye for the reader. What you’re trying to do here is make the reader read and read more, and hopefully navigate your site for more info…and more likely bookmark it for future reference.
